Start at Nathan Phillips Square for the free Toronto Dragon Festival Friday through Sunday, then head east to Woodbine Park for BuskerFest. On Saturday, finish by the lake at Super Yummy Night Market. T.U. Jazz Festival is another free stop already in this weekend’s mix.

Put Woodbine Park first

BuskerFest runs Friday to Monday by donation to Epilepsy Toronto, with Bark in the Park TO and family foam parties in the program. Dragon Festival at Nathan Phillips Square is the downtown free option Friday through Sunday. Leave a CNE day for later if the kids still have legs.

Save a CNE day for the Snowbirds

The CNE closes Monday. The Canadian International Air Show is on September 5–7 from noon to 3:40 p.m.; the Snowbirds headline their last Tutor-era Toronto appearance before an operational pause. Build the day around your CNE entry and paid air-show viewing options—do not count on re-entering after 3 p.m. on Labour Day.

Skip the Ex and go north

If the CNE, Fort York and Nathan Phillips Square sound like too much city, Ashkenaz has a park weekend in North York: free programming at Earl Bales Park on Saturday, then a pre-registered Sunday finale at Honey and Barry Park on the Sherman Campus. Pair it with a trail or a neighbourhood walk and leave the midway to everyone else.

The short answer: there is plenty to do, but the usual errand run is not it.

  • • CNE: grounds 10 a.m.–9 p.m.; buildings 10 a.m.–7 p.m.; midway 10 a.m.–9 p.m. Gates close at 5 p.m., with no re-entry after 3 p.m.
  • • Canadian International Air Show: noon–3:40 p.m. at the CNE.
  • • BuskerFest: noon–7 p.m. at Woodbine Park, by donation.
  • • Labour Day Parade: muster begins at 9 a.m. near University Avenue and the Armoury; the parade travels along Queen Street from University Avenue and arrives at the CNE’s Dufferin Gate around 11 a.m.
  • • TTC runs holiday service, with Sunday schedules starting around 6 a.m. Select outdoor pools are open; check the City’s drop-in swimming schedule for the current list.
