VT Insider Tip

Because it only happens every two years, the festival tends to go bigger than a typical annual event when it does land — check the full venue list rather than assuming everything's at Harbourfront.

About

Ashkenaz is a biennial celebration of global Jewish music, arts and culture at Harbourfront Centre, running klezmer and Yiddish programming alongside Sephardic, Mizrachi and Israeli music and a wide range of cross-cultural fusion acts. It's been staged every second year since 1995, making it a genuine institution rather than an annual fixture, and the 2026 edition is expanding beyond Harbourfront into Kensington Market and North York for the first time.

What to Expect

Multiple outdoor stages running concurrently at Harbourfront with klezmer bands, Yiddish theatre and world-fusion acts, a large family and community footprint.

Pro Tips

Free programming means first-come seating at the busiest stages — arrive ahead of headline sets.

Getting There

Harbourfront Centre is a short walk from Union Station via the 509 Harbourfront or 510 Spadina streetcar.
