Tommy Thompson Park is the Leslie Street Spit: a free car-free peninsula of trails, birds, and lake wind on fill that became a nature reserve. Toronto and Region Conservation Authority pages keep public access free; the park is day-use, bikes and pedestrians only beyond the gates. First-timers: pack water and layers; cell signal fades; turn back before dusk when gates close seasonally. Lighthouse point is the classic turnaround. This is a wilderness walk on landfill, not a manicured downtown park.
