The Humber River Recreational Trail is the west-end valley walk: paved and dirt, Old Mill stone bridge, river flats, and enough distance to make a 10 km out-and-back feel like leaving the city. Étienne Brûlé Park (Old Mill / Bloor) is the civilized start — washrooms when open, river views, and the subway at Old Mill station. Follow the river south toward the lake or north into the valley. City park hours. Shared with cyclists; keep right. Spring melt can cover low boardwalks. This is the hike for people who will not get in a car.
