Tackling topics that are often difficult to broach within traditional diaspora communities, TAIWANfest’s gender equity and queer programming provides safe, open spaces for dialogue and celebration at Harbourfront Centre.
What to Expect
Acclaimed queer novelist Nathalie Chang (Chang Yi-Hsum) leads a lecture unpacking the intersections of culture, gender, and power through East Asian literature. Researchers like Sung-En Lin share insights into the transformative roles of women in Taiwanese Indigenous communities. Alongside these vital discussions, high-energy performances from bands like P!SCO create inclusive spaces where the LGBTQ+ community and allies can connect and dance freely.
Venue & Access
All programming takes place at Harbourfront Centre (235 Queens Quay W) as part of the wider festival weekend. It's a welcoming space for newcomers, diaspora members, and anyone interested in community dialogue.
