Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2026

For eleven days each September, downtown Toronto becomes one of the most important stops on the global film calendar. The 51st Toronto International Film Festival runs September 10 to 20, 2026, screening roughly 200 feature films and more than 100 shorts across TIFF Lightbox and a cluster of venues in the entertainment district.

What to Expect

TIFF is where the fall awards season effectively begins. The festival's Gala and Special Presentations programmes bring a steady stream of world premieres and star-studded red carpets to King Street West, while strands like Platform, Midnight Madness, and Wavelengths reward more adventurous viewing. The People's Choice Award — voted by audiences rather than a jury — has become one of the most reliable early Oscar bellwethers in the industry.

Beyond the Screenings

You don't need a ticket to a premiere to feel the festival. King Street West between University and Peter is closed to traffic and turned into Festival Street, with installations, food vendors, live music, and the city's best odds of a celebrity sighting. New for recent editions, TIFF: The Market (September 10–16) adds a dedicated industry marketplace for buyers, sellers, and filmmakers.

Tickets

Individual tickets, ticket packages, and festival passes go on sale ahead of the festival through tiff.net. Premium galas sell out fast; single tickets to daytime and midweek screenings are far easier to land, and rush lines open for many sold-out shows.

Getting There

TIFF Lightbox sits at 350 King Street West, a short walk from St. Andrew (Line 1) and Osgoode stations, or the 504 King streetcar. With Festival Street closed and downtown parking scarce and pricey, transit is by far the easiest way in.
