Secrets & Lies - 30th Anniversary

Hot Docs Cinema is marking the film's 30th anniversary with a special big-screen presentation.

The film follows Hortense (Marianne Jean-Baptiste), a young Black optometrist adopted as a child who sets out to find her birth mother, only to discover Cynthia (Brenda Blethyn in a tour-de-force, award-winning performance), a lonely white factory worker whose long-lost daughter sends shockwaves through an already fragile family. Born from Leigh's legendary rehearsal and improvisation process, the film remains an emotional knockout.
