Head over to West Queen West this late summer to celebrate a major milestone in Toronto's artist-run culture. Propeller Gallery is marking its 30th anniversary with *Propeller 30: An Exhibition of Members and Alumni*, a sweeping retrospective that honours the visionary artists who launched the space and those who continue to sustain its vibrant community today.
Hosted at 30 Abell Street, this milestone exhibition brings together an impressive 77 artworks by 77 different creators—spanning 45 current members and 32 alumni. Spanning the gallery's entire history from its foundational years right up to its newest additions, the showcase features a dynamic mix of older historical pieces and brand-new works. Expect a diverse cross-section of mediums, united by a shared passion for experimental, artist-driven curation.
What to Expect
Visitors can look forward to an eclectic multimedia experience where painting, sculpture, photography, and mixed media intersect. Alongside the visual art, the exhibition features deeply personal artist statements detailing how Propeller has shaped and supported their individual careers over the decades. It's a wonderful window into Toronto's grass-roots contemporary art ecosystem.
Located in the heart of West Queen West, Abell Street is just steps away from some of the city's best independent cafes, galleries, and Trinity Bellwoods Park. Make an afternoon of it by grabbing a coffee, taking in the retrospective, and exploring the surrounding neighbourhood's thriving creative scene. Admission is completely free, making it an accessible stop for art lovers and curious locals alike.
