National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Commemoration

Tuesday, September 29, 2026
7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Bata Shoe Museum
Marking the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day, the Bata Shoe Museum hosts an essential evening of listening, learning, and community building in the heart of Old Toronto.
An Evening of Reflection
Attendees will hear from Ojibwe Kwe author, educator, and Residential School survivor Karen Chaboyer, who brings her lived experience and vital perspective to the forefront. This event goes beyond standard commemoration, offering an open dialogue space where participants can engage directly with difficult histories and pathways toward healing.
What to Expect
The evening begins with doors opening at 6:30 pm, leading into a heartfelt conversation starting at 7:00 pm. Following the talk, an open dialogue and visiting session runs until the museum closes at 9:00 pm. To foster warmth and community spirit, traditional tea and bannock will be catered by Candace's Catering.
Practical Details
Hosted at the Bata Shoe Museum (327 Bloor St. W.), tickets operate on a 'Pay What You Wish' model (ranging from free to $30), ensuring accessibility for all community members. This event is recommended for ages 16 and up due to the sensitive nature of the subject matter. Make an evening of it by grabbing dinner in the Annex before heading over to Bloor and Spadina.
