Musk — Alex Gibney Documentary at Hot Docs

Sunday, November 1, 2026
6:15 p.m. – 9:15 p.m.
506 Bloor Street West
Alex Gibney spent nearly four years on *Musk*, and Elon tried to kill the project on Twitter the moment it was announced. Gibney made it anyway — drawing on years of Musk’s own interviews plus new conversations with people who knew him up close, including his father, Errol Musk.
The film
Thom Powers (TIFF) frames it bluntly: Tesla, Starlink, the Twitter takeover, DOGE, AI, SpaceX — one person’s influence touching nearly everyone on the planet. Gibney leans into graphic/sci-fi visual treatments that echo Musk’s own simulation talk, but the through-line is earthly: how a clean-energy Obama-era contractor drifted into Trump-world power.
