Shakespeare’s blood-soaked tragedy gets a wonderfully bizarre makeover courtesy of Eldritch Theatre. Conceived and performed by Eric Woolfe, *MacBeth: A Tale Told By An Idiot* smashes together classic royal treachery with a ghoulishly giddy bag of trickery, featuring multi-sized puppets, masks, parlour magic, and a heavy dose of cosmic horror.

Taking over the intimate Red Sandcastle Theatre on Queen Street East in Leslieville, this multi-Dora Award-nominated production transforms the Scottish play into a cartoonish Grand Guignol spectacle. Woolfe’s solo performance brings a uniquely tactile and eerie energy to the stage, making it a must-see for lovers of boundary-pushing indie theatre in Toronto.

What to Expect Expect inventive puppetry, visceral theatricality, and a darkly comic spin on classic Shakespearean madness. The venue itself is tiny and atmospheric, placing you right in the thick of the action. Because it’s playing for just one night, tickets are expected to move fast.

Getting There & Making a Night of It Located at 922 Queen Street East, the Red Sandcastle is easily accessible via the 501 Queen streetcar. Leslieville is packed with fantastic pre-show dining options; grab a pint or a bite along Queen East before diving into the occult prophecies and viscera-sopped murders.
