In the Toronto premiere of his solo show *Lyre Liar*, UK-based dancer and creator Liam Francis opens up about the profound challenges, joys, and vulnerabilities of stepping into iconic roles created by his dance heroes.
A Journey Through Dance Legacies Francis first fell in love with movement after watching Kate Prince’s *Into the Hoods*, later discovering legendary works like Merce Cunningham’s *RainForest* and Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui’s *Faun*. Years later, found himself performing those very masterpieces—bridging his deep-rooted love for hip-hop with the rigorous world of postmodern dance.
*Lyre Liar* functions simultaneously as a dance portrait, a lecture-demonstration, and a raw autobiography. Accompanied by a striking feathered stage companion, Francis examines what it feels like to look up at your artistic idols, attempt to climb the mountain, and walk among them.
