Keeper's by Kendra Yee (Toronto Artist-in-Residence)

Saturday, October 3, 2026 – Wednesday, October 28, 2026
12:00 p.m. – 12:00 p.m.
1643 Dupont Street
Kendra Yee, Toronto's Artist-in-Residence for 2025-2026, presents Keeper's at 1643 Dupont Street. The free installation runs October 3 through 28 and reimagines a corner store as a place where family history and city archives meet.
The Installation
Yee embeds archival imagery into new ceramic sculptures that look like the everyday objects you find in a convenience store. The work draws on her family's immigration to the Prairies during the Chinese Head Tax and Chinese Exclusion Act eras, set against City of Toronto Archives records of Toronto's Chinese community from the 1890s to the 1950s.
Why It Matters
Chinese-founded family businesses are a quiet backbone of neighbourhood life across the city. Keeper's treats those shops as cultural memory, not just retail. Visitors are invited to look closely at what gets preserved, and who keeps the stories.
Practical Details
Free admission at 1643 Dupont Street (Junction / Dupont West). Expect a gallery-style visit rather than a timed ticket. Check the City of Toronto Artist-in-Residence pages for any hours updates before you go.
