Exhibition "Amensalism" by Curtia Wright

The Riverdale Hub Gallery presents 'Amensalism,' a compelling solo exhibition and visual arts research project by Toronto-based multidisciplinary artist Curtia Wright. Running through the month of August, the exhibition officially invites the community to a special meet-the-artist reception featuring an artist talk.

About the Exhibition Taking its title from the ecological concept where one organism is harmed while another remains unaffected, 'Amensalism' serves as a profound metaphor for systemic and ideological pressures. Through a host-parasite lens, Wright uses vibrant colours, surrealist narratives, and the human figure to investigate how invisible forces—such as social expectations, mental health struggles, inherited beliefs, and colonialism—shape identity and personal agency.

The Artist A graduate of OCAD University, Curtia Wright is widely recognized for her striking murals and fine art that weave together fantasy, sci-fi, metaphysics, and memory. Her work encourages viewers to reflect on their own voices in an increasingly divided world.
