The Wine Thief

Located at 840 Bloor Street West, The Wine Thief is a European-inspired wine bar and bottle shop situated in the Bloorcourt Village neighbourhood. Spearheaded by wine industry veterans Peter Wearing and Emily Craig, the space occupies the former Fall Bright Tavern footprint with a concept designed to feel relaxed and established. The beverage program features classically driven bottles and pours from small growers across France, Italy, Spain, Austria, Greece, and Portugal, deliberately focusing on wines with a distinct sense of place rather than catering strictly to connoisseurs.

First-time visitors can expect an unpretentious environment where guests can drop in for a midweek glass at the Turkish black marble bar or pick up a bottle packaged to go in a cooler bag with ice for a park picnic. Alongside the extensive international retail and by-the-glass options, the kitchen serves a complementary menu of small plates and snacks. The venue features street-facing garage doors that open during warmer months, as well as a plant-filled covered patio at the back. Reservations can be made via Resy, though walk-ins are welcomed for those looking to sample European pours and light bites.
