The Matcha Tokyo brings its internationally recognized specialty green tea concept to Toronto's vibrant Ossington Strip, marking the brand's first-ever North American storefront. Led locally by franchise owner Kristina Bura, the minimalist café translates a popular Tokyo phenomenon into a clean, wood-accented neighbourhood gathering space. The beverage program centers strictly on 100 per cent organic, first-flush matcha sourced from dedicated Japanese farmland, utilizing shade-grown spring leaves that are stone-ground into a vibrant green powder. By emphasizing traditional preparation methods alongside local ingredients like Sheldon Creek Dairy milk, the café pairs its minimalist design with an uncompromising dedication to high-grade provenance.
First-time visitors can expect an entirely walk-in operation with a daily service window from morning through early evening. The menu features core beverages such as traditional straight matcha whisked with bamboo chasen, smooth matcha lattes, hojicha creations, and layered drinks like matcha lemonade, alongside desserts including soft-serve ice cream and a Toronto-exclusive nama matcha chocolate basque cheesecake. Patrons should anticipate steady queues during peak afternoon hours, particularly on weekends, given the intense initial local interest. Beyond ready-to-drink options, the counter stocks retail packages of organic tea leaves, ceramic tea ware, and branded merchandise for home preparation.
