What is Norling? Co-owners Pasang Lhawang and chef Sonam Choedhen opened Norling along Parkdale’s Little Tibet corridor at 1512 Queen Street West to serve hearty Tibetan home cooking alongside Indian Hakka classics. Named after the Dalai Lama’s historic summer palace, the unpretentious dining room is understated and cozy, outfitted with warm lighting, cultural artwork, and tight rows of dining tables.
Norling Menu & What to Order Handmade momos are the primary draw—order them steamed with juicy minced beef or pan-fried with seasoned vegetables, paired with the kitchen's punchy red chili paste. Cold yellow laphing noodles bathed in garlic, vinegar, and roasted chili broth provide an addictive spicy-tangy kick alongside deep-fried chicken pakoras crusted with sesame. For comfort, order the hand-pulled thenthuk noodle soup or Hakka chili chicken, washed down with traditional boe cha (salty butter tea) or a sweet mango lassi.
Know Before You Go Norling operates primarily on a casual walk-in basis with rapid table turnover, though dinner tables fill fast on Friday and Saturday evenings. The 501 Queen streetcar stops right outside, while metered street parking lines Queen Street West and surrounding residential avenues. Note that the restaurant is closed on Tuesdays and operates from lunch through late evening the rest of the week.
