What is Afrobeat Kitchen? Taking over an intimate, brick-lined room at 1510 Queen Street West in South Parkdale, Afrobeat Kitchen is chef-owner Victor Ugwueke's vibrant ode to modern Nigerian dining and West African rhythm. Ugwueke, who grew up cooking alongside his mother in Lagos, channels a communal "faaji" (celebration) spirit with warm amber lighting, an inviting L-shaped bar, and a pulsing soundtrack of Burna Boy and Fela Kuti.

Afrobeat Kitchen Menu & What to Order Start with the Sticky Suya Wings, which are marinated for 24 hours and crusted in a fiery suya pepper blend that delivers intense heat and crunch. The undisputed star of the menu is the Party Jollof—deeply smoky, slow-cooked in a sofrito reduction laced with lemongrass and star anise, and served with sweet plantains and charred peppered chicken. Vegetarians and vegans are exceptionally well taken care of with thoughtful mains like the shiitake-and-kombu-infused Vegan Egusi and the rich peanut-and-miso Mafe stew. Wash down the building spice with a cold, tart glass of house-brewed Zobo (hibiscus ginger tea).

Know Before You Go With limited dining room seating, tables fill rapidly on prime weekend evenings, so plan to arrive early or drop in on a weeknight to easily snag a spot at the bar. Street parking along Queen West can be tricky to navigate, making the 501 Queen streetcar (stepping off at Macdonell Avenue) your easiest route. Afrobeat Kitchen is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, operating dinner service Wednesday through Sunday with daytime hours starting Sunday afternoon.
