Linny's

The interior dining room of Linny's restaurant featuring mid-century modern design, velvet banquettes, and white tablecloths.

Chef David Schwartz, the force behind Sunnys and Mimi Chinese, has brought a deli-inspired steakhouse to the Ossington strip. Designed by Jack Lipson, the 80-seat room leans into a mid-century aesthetic with warm wood panelling and plush corduroy banquettes, successfully avoiding the usual kitsch. It’s a personal project for Schwartz, serving as a tribute to his mother, Linda, while bridging the gap between nostalgic Ashkenazi comfort food and the polished service of a high-end chophouse.

Start with the challah service or the chicken liver mousse on dark rye before moving on to the main event: Ontario and P.E.I. steaks finished with pastrami tallow butter. The house-smoked pastrami, cut from the navel, is the obvious move if you want to lean into the deli side of the menu. The bar program is surprisingly thoughtful, incorporating deli-adjacent ingredients into the cocktail list. It gets busy, so book a table ahead of time if you’re planning a weekend dinner, though the room works just as well for a spontaneous weeknight drink and a few plates.
