Hot Mess is a sandwich shop and neighbourhood delicatessen located in Leslieville, founded by sommelier Lee Stein of If I May Hospitality and Chef Steven Kasprowicz, formerly of The Eat Locker. The concept focuses on daytime dining, offering a concise menu of sandwiches that draw inspiration from the owners' backgrounds, blending classic deli traditions with creative, house-made components. The space also functions as a pantry, stocking an array of in-house products including sauces, pickles, soups, and frozen meals like mac 'n cheese and lasagna, designed to serve the local community.
For a first visit, expect a casual, vibrant atmosphere with a menu that includes standouts like the Beef Dip, featuring shaved AAA top sirloin and house-made horseradish mayo, and a Jerk Fish sandwich served on coco bread with mango chow salsa. The Truffle Mushroom Melt is a popular vegetarian option. Prices generally range between $5 and $15. The shop is open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Don't overlook the house-made potato chips, which are available in three flavours and are a recommended quick snack.
