Chandni Chowk

What is Chandni Chowk? A stalwart of the Gerrard India Bazaar since the early 1990s, Chandni Chowk sits at 1426 Gerrard Street East in Greenwood-Coxwell. The family-run institution keeps things decidedly unfussy, with a brightly lit, utilitarian dining room lined with straightforward tables and booths. It serves as a neighborhood canteen where locals and East Enders drop in for unpretentious, reliable halal Indian and Pakistani home-style cooking.

Chandni Chowk Menu & What to Order The kitchen specializes in charcoal-charred tandoori fare, fragrant Hyderabadi biryanis, and rich Mughlai gravies. The perennial must-order is the footlong seekh kebab paired with pillowy, blistered tandoori naan. Pair it with sizzling tandoori chicken tikka, slow-simmered lamb nihari, or rich karahi gosht, while vegetarians have dependable options like spicy channa bhatura and palak paneer washed down with a mango lassi.

Know Before You Go The restaurant operates strictly on a walk-in basis with brisk table turnover, so waits are rare even during busy weekend dinner services. Street parking along Gerrard Street East can get congested during summer weekends, making the 506 Carlton streetcar the easiest way to arrive. The entire menu is certified halal, and the kitchen stays open daily from noon until late evening.
