What is Bakerrae? Anchoring a lively stretch of Broadview Avenue in East Chinatown, Bakerrae is pastry chef Rhea Abayan’s modern Filipino bakery and cafe. After shuttering her earlier location, Abayan teamed up again with partner Ry Lee of bean-to-bar label Chachalate to transform a former neighborhood grocery store into a sunlit storefront upfront and a working micro-chocolate factory in the rear. The space features clean timber finishes, a sprawling glass pastry case, and casual seating where guests can sit down for espresso and fresh bakes.

Bakerrae Menu & What to Order Abayan marries classical French laminations with nostalgic Filipino flavors across a menu that rotates bi-weekly. Must-orders include the crisp croissant cups packed with savory-sweet fillings, airy calamansi meringue cream puffs, plush Cinnamon Rae rolls, and decadent ube coconut Basque cheesecake. Drinks are just as inventive: sip a fragrant pandan latte, a tart calamansi espresso tonic, or an intense single-origin hot Chachalate seasoned with rare Bohol asin tibuok sea salt.

Know Before You Go Seating is strictly walk-in only, and popular pastry drops often sell out well before closing time on weekends. Streetcar access is seamless via the 504 King, 505 Dundas, and 506 Carlton routes along Broadview Avenue. The shop operates daily from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., but arriving before midday guarantees the best selection in the display case.
