Ahead of National AccessAbility Week, The Walrus brings its signature event series to the Bram and Bluma Appel Salon at the Toronto Reference Library. This special edition, 'The Walrus Talks AccessAbility,' tackles the urgent reality that while eight million Canadians identify as living with a disability, significant barriers remain between policy frameworks—like the Accessible Canada Act—and the actual lived experiences of those they are meant to support.

Hosted by Duncan Sinclair, Deloitte Chair of Canada and Chile, the event features a live podcast recording of Courage Inc. The evening will showcase four speakers from the disability community, diving into critical topics including the importance of accessible technology, the impact of corporate rollbacks on DEI initiatives, and the persistent, systemic nature of ableism. Following the talks, Sinclair will moderate a panel discussion to further unpack these complex issues.

Why You Should Attend This is more than just a talk; it is a vital community conversation about equity and innovation in Toronto. Whether you are an advocate, a policymaker, or simply someone looking to better understand the barriers facing our neighbours, this event offers a space for informed, necessary dialogue.

Practical Information The event takes place at the Bram and Bluma Appel Salon, located on the second floor of the Toronto Reference Library at 789 Yonge Street. It is easily accessible by transit via Bloor-Yonge station. For those unable to attend in person, the event is also available to stream online. Be sure to check The Walrus website for registration details and accessibility accommodations.
