Spring in Thessaloniki with Andania Greek Goods

Saturday, May 30, 2026
6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
Centre for Social Innovation – Spadina
Thessaloniki is widely considered to be the gastronomic capital of Greece, celebrated for a culinary identity that blends traditional Greek flavours with rich Ottoman, Jewish, and Armenian influences. On May 30, you can experience this "melting pot" heritage firsthand at the Centre for Social Innovation on Spadina.
A Taste of Thessaloniki This dinner event is hosted by Peter Minaki, a proud Greek Canadian and the creator of the popular *Kalofagas – Greek Food & Beyond* blog. Minaki is known for his deep knowledge of Greek cuisine and his ability to balance traditional recipes with modern twists. He’ll be guiding guests through a menu that highlights the city’s obsession with mezes, grilled meats, and aromatic spices.
Expect a multi-course journey starting with a variety of mezedes, including Kalamata olives, zesty feta dip, and spinach-stuffed phyllo pies. The main course features *Soutzoukakia Smyrneika*—oval-shaped beef meatballs simmered in a tomato sauce spiked with cumin and cinnamon—served over herbed rice pilaf. The evening concludes with a unique feta cheesecake topped with sour cherry "spoon sweet," a traditional preserve that symbolizes Greek hospitality.
Why You Should Go Beyond the food, this is a great opportunity to learn about the history of Greek cuisine from an expert who draws inspiration from yearly trips to Greece. The event is sponsored by Andania Imported Greek Goods, and attendees will have the chance to purchase some of the authentic products used in the meal to take home.
Located at 192 Spadina Ave, the Centre for Social Innovation is right in the heart of the city, making it an easy spot to reach. Whether you are a fan of Greek food or just looking for a unique dining experience, this event offers a warm, communal atmosphere perfect for welcoming the spring season. Come hungry and ready to say "opa!"
