If you are looking for a unique way to spend a Saturday afternoon, head up to The Village at Black Creek for a hands-on needle felting workshop. Fiber artist Cathy Disbrow is leading this creative session, where you will learn the addictive art of "stabbing" wool into shape to create your very own personality-packed sheep puff.
What to Expect
This isn't just any craft class; it is a true "farm-to-art" experience. You will be working with wool sourced directly from the Village’s own flock of Border Leicester sheep. Cathy will guide you through the essentials of sculpting with wool, including the professional techniques for attaching authentic curly locks to give your sheep its signature fleece. You will even get to craft a tiny carrot for your new friend to snack on. The workshop is designed for absolute beginners, so no prior experience is necessary.
Make a Day of It
Your ticket includes free admission to The Village at Black Creek, which opens at 11:00 a.m. This is the perfect excuse to explore the historic grounds, enjoy a picnic lunch, or visit the field enclosure to meet the sheep that provided the wool for your project. It is a fantastic way to enjoy the spring weather in North York before settling in for your workshop at 1:00 p.m.
Practical Information
All materials, including two felting needles, wool, and curly wool locks, are included in the $75 ticket price. Foam felting pads are provided for use during the session. For more information or to book your spot, visit the official event page.
