Ancient History

What traces do humans leave behind, and which personal obsessions withstand the test of time? The Artists' Network explores these lingering questions in "Ancient History," a compelling group exhibition hosted at the Leslie Grove Gallery at the corner of Queen Street East and Jones Avenue in Leslieville.

The featured artworks span expansive themes of human memory, natural disasters, and structural longevity. From imagery referencing Roman amphitheatres and Aztec temples to tangible sculptures—including a concrete-sealed jewellery box transformed into a generational burden and delicate leatherwork—the exhibition balances grand historical markers with intimate, fragile domestic artefacts.

What to Expect

The gallery space will host a variety of media, including photography, mixed media painting, and three-dimensional sculpture. The works collectively reflect on endurance, erosion, and the ecological dialogue between human civilization and the earth. An opening reception on Thursday, September 3 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM gives visitors the chance to meet the contributing artists, discuss their process, and enjoy light refreshments.

Admission throughout the exhibition's run is entirely free, making it an easy and rewarding cultural drop-in.
