Founded at 225 Augusta Avenue by cousins Augustine and Emilio Morales following the success of their Kensington Market food stall La Chilaca, Taco Gus is the original flagship of Toronto’s favourite home-grown taqueria. The compact counter-service shop features narrow indoor stools, the aroma of sizzling meats off the flat top, and a relaxed back patio hidden behind the kitchen.

Taco Gus Menu & What to Order Everything is served on warm, house-pressed corn tortillas loaded with generous fillings and fresh cilantro and onion. The essential order is the signature pastor chilaca—a roasted banana pepper stuffed with melted cheese and savoury grilled pork—alongside the golden, crispy battered fish taco topped with chipotle mayo. Pair rich lamb barbacoa or beef birria tacos with a cup of hot consomé for dipping, and wash it down with a glass bottle of Jarritos.

Know Before You Go Taco Gus operates entirely on walk-in counter service, and lines move fast even when queues spill onto Augusta during sunny weekends and Pedestrian Sundays. If the small back patio is full, grab your tacos to go and grab a bench at nearby Bellevue Square Park. The shop is open daily from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. with quick streetcar access from Dundas or College.
