What is Sushi Bong? Tucked inside a Northtown Way condo complex just off Yonge Street in North York, Sushi Bong is a no-frills sushi counter famous for dishing out some of the most gargantuan maki rolls in the city. With barely enough floor space for a handful of seats fitting two to eight diners, the cramped room functions almost entirely as a high-volume takeout depot. It skips decorative pretensions entirely in favor of lightning-fast roll prep, modest prices, and friendly, brisk service.
Sushi Bong Menu & What to Order Oversized maki is the main attraction, headlined by the house namesake 'Sushi Bong Special' and a notoriously loaded 'Spicy Salmon Roll' packed with fish and crunchy tempura bits. If you want something beyond classic 'Red Dragon' and soft-shell crab 'Spider' rolls, order the Korean-style 'Haekooksoo' (spicy cold sashimi noodles) or a hefty glazed 'Unagi Donburi'. Every roll arrives at twice the circumference of standard Toronto sushi bars, making a couple of rolls easily enough to feed two people.
Know Before You Go Plan on ordering takeout rather than banking on one of the few dine-in seats, especially during dinner rushes when the narrow entrance fills with pick-up orders. The kitchen runs Monday through Saturday from noon to late evening, opening at 3:00 p.m. on Sundays. It sits a short walk between Finch and North York Centre subway stations, with limited underground visitor parking available in the complex.
