What is Square Noodle? Square Noodle (九九烩面) is a Henan-style noodle house in a Scarborough plaza at 3250 Midland Avenue. The specialty is huimian—hand-pulled braised noodles from China's Henan province—which you won't find at many spots in the GTA. The noodles are made fresh, pulled to order, and served in rich broths that have been simmering for hours. It's a no-frills space focused entirely on getting the noodles right.

Square Noodle Menu & What to Order Start with the Traditional Mutton Braised Noodles (传统羊肉烩面), the house signature—wide, chewy hand-pulled noodles in a deeply savoury lamb broth. The Braised Beef Noodles are equally hearty. For something with more funk, the Lao Tan Sauerkraut and Fatty Beef Braised Noodles bring a tangy, pickled edge. Off the noodle menu, the Daokou Roasted Chicken is a traditional Henan cold dish worth ordering, and the Braised Stick Bones are messy but rewarding. The Luoyang Lamb Soup with flatbread is a warming side.
