Makann

February 19, 2026
Located in the Annex just steps from Bathurst subway station, Makann is a compact, one-man operation specializing in Palestinian-inspired breakfast sandwiches. Founded in February 2026 by Mohammed Alkurd, the shop focuses on freshly baked flatbreads made with a simple recipe of flour, olive oil, yeast, and yogurt. The name, derived from an Arabic word meaning "a place" or "a spot," reflects the owner's desire to share traditional flavours in a casual, no-frills environment. The interior is minimal, featuring a walk-up counter, a chalkboard menu, and a few decorative accents, designed primarily for quick, grab-and-go service.
The menu is intentionally small, highlighting five distinct sandwiches that showcase traditional ingredients like za'atar, labneh, and fava bean paste. Popular options include the foole and egg sandwich, which combines fava bean paste, egg, home fries, sumac onions, and a signature sauce, and the labneh and smoked salmon sandwich topped with capers, cucumber, and fresh mint. The shop also offers traditional Palestinian sweets such as date rings, barazek, and daoukieh, alongside coffee and tea. As the space is very small—accommodating only a few people at a time—visitors should be prepared for potential lineups, though service is generally fast. The shop operates Tuesday through Sunday.
