Taking over the former Grand Electric digs at 1330 Queen Street West in Parkdale, Kaminari is a stylish Tokyo-style ramen bar and late-night listening lounge founded by Daiju Matsuura (Imanishi Sando Bar) and Kon Tran (Vancouver's DD Mau). Named after the Japanese god of thunder and sound, the minimalist wood-and-washi space is tuned with a serious JBL sound system spinning vinyl-adjacent soul, funk, and jazz. Seating spreads across casual bar counters, dining tables, and a heated back patio.

Kaminari Menu & What to Order Unlike the heavy pork-laden tonkotsu spots dominating town, Kaminari focuses on clean, MSG-free chicken and dashi broths. The showstopper is the Creamy Shio, enriched with clam umami and topped with sous-vide chicken and tender pork chashu. Start your meal with the Saba Sando served on pillowy milk bread or the beef carpaccio dressed in tamarind vinaigrette, while plant-based eaters can rely on the rich Vegan Miso ramen.
