KAFE 002 is the first Toronto shop from the L.A. brew-and-collab coffee brand, at 1024 Queen Street West near Ossington. Numbered locations are the point: 001 is Melrose in West Hollywood with Broskin Studios; 002 shares the former Café Neon room with Frano Pizza & Panini, the Mount Albert family pie shop. Soft opening hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day.

The coffee program is Q-grader serious — farm-to-cup, roasted in-house — and the signatures are why you come. Blacktop is the one people talk about: iced espresso, whole milk, cinnamon, cardamom, date syrup, Greek yogurt, charcoal. North Latte is maple and smoked salt. Saffron Matcha runs pistachio milk. Eat here too: Frano's thin-crust pies (eggplant parmigiana is the early favourite) and sugar-dusted bombolini. Walk-in. Come for a charcoal latte and stay for a slice.
