Jerk King

What is Jerk King? Operating out of the retail concourse at 4750 Yonge Street just north of Sheppard, Jerk King brings Johnson Osei's longstanding Caribbean takeout staple to North York. The setup is strictly utilitarian and no-frills, anchored by a glass-fronted steam table, bright fluorescent lighting, and a few high-top stools built for quick bites on the go.

Jerk King Menu & What to Order The signature jerk chicken is the main draw, chopped fresh and layered with a scotch bonnet and ginger kick, then generously ladled with dark house gravy over coconut rice and peas. Deeply braised oxtail and tender curry goat are reliable heavyweights, while folded roti wraps stuffed with curried chickpeas and potatoes give vegetarians a satisfying main. Cool the heat with a bottle of grapefruit Ting or Irish moss, and round out your order with sweet fried plantains and a flaky beef patty.

Know Before You Go Service is counter-order and walk-ins only, with swift turnaround even when the lunch line stretches toward the building entrance. The shop sits steps from the Sheppard-Yonge subway station entrance, making TTC transit the smartest option given sparse street parking along Yonge. Operating hours run six days a week from late morning into the evening, with doors closed on Sundays.
