Honest Ed's Park

Honest Ed's Park is a 1,213-square-metre public green space in the heart of Mirvish Village, designed as a permanent tribute to the legendary Honest Ed's department store. Developed by the City of Toronto in partnership with Peterson, the park occupies a portion of the former retail site and serves as a community hub within the new mixed-use Mirvish Village redevelopment. Landscape architects PFS Studio drew inspiration from the store's iconic visual identity, incorporating its famous exuberant curls and illuminated ornament into the park's geometry. The space is organized into a series of intimate garden rooms, featuring native trees and plantings that support local bird species, offering a whimsical and nostalgic nod to the site's storied history.

Visitors to the park can expect a thoughtfully designed urban oasis that includes picnic tables, ample bench seating, and an interactive water feature shaped like a bird bath—a playful reference to founder Ed Mirvish's famous slogan, "For the birds, cheep cheep cheep." The park is easily accessible from Markham Street and provides a quiet, green counterpoint to the surrounding residential and retail density. It is an ideal spot for a casual afternoon break or a family gathering, reflecting the spirit of community that once defined the original landmark. While the park is a new addition to the city's public system, it stands as a central feature of the neighbourhood's ongoing transformation, inviting residents to connect in a space that honors Toronto's cultural heritage.
