Coffee In

What is Coffee In? Do not let the misnomer fool you: this low-key Dorset Park fixture on Lawrence Avenue East is not a café, but one of Scarborough's most enduring, family-run Filipino hot-counter staples. The room is straightforward, bustling, and hospitable, centered around a steam table where regulars point and choose their midday feasts. Seating is utilitarian and unfussy, with indoor dining tables alongside seasonal patio space designed for quick, comforting lunches.

Coffee In Menu & What to Order The kitchen turns out homestyle Pinoy comfort cooking in generous portions, beginning bright and early with garlic-fried-rice silog breakfasts like the savoury, cured-beef 'Tapsilog'. Come midday, the soup pots take center stage with rich, tamarind-soured 'Sinigang Pork' and deep, restorative bowls of noodle-laden 'La Paz Batchoy'. The peanut-rich 'Kare-kare' and shatteringly crisp 'Lumpia Shanghai' are essential hot-table additions, ideally capped off with a sweet, caramelized 'Turon' or a towering 'Halo-Halo'.

Know Before You Go Everything runs strictly on walk-ins, and while lunch rushes pack the counter, the line moves with practiced efficiency. Parking is straightforward in the adjacent strip plaza, and the Lawrence East bus stops directly nearby. Note the daylight hours: doors open at 8:00 a.m. for breakfast and shut down early, wrapping by 6:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 4:45 p.m. on Sunday.
