CAMH Emergency Department

CAMH’s Emergency Department is a 24/7 psychiatric emergency department, not a medical trauma bay. Official camh.ca/en/patients-and-families/programs-and-services/emergency-department places it in the Crisis & Critical Care Building at the Queen Street site, 1051 Queen Street West, open 24 hours, 7 days a week, for adults age 16 and older who need emergency psychiatric assessment and treatment for mental health and substance-use issues. No referral is required. The page is explicit that the ED does not provide crisis counselling or general information over the phone — for a medical emergency call 911 or go to a general hospital ED. 211 Ontario lists Access CAMH at 416-535-8501 ext. 2 and emergency-room inquiries only at 416-979-6885. First-timers: this is Queen West, west of Ossington, inside the redeveloped CAMH campus. If the emergency is chest pain, a stroke, major trauma, or a child under 16, this is the wrong door. If it is a psychiatric crisis for someone 16 or older, this is the city’s dedicated 24/7 psychiatric ED.
