Boxcar Social

What is Boxcar Social? Anchoring the historic Waterworks complex at 505 Richmond Street West, Boxcar Social brings its signature day-to-night rhythm to Wellington Place. The airy brick-and-beam space effortlessly pivots from a laptop-friendly multi-roaster cafe into a low-lit evening haunt for local pints and boutique wines. Seating is deliberately versatile, offering sprawling communal wood tables, snug upholstered corner chairs, a polished counter bar, and an outdoor patio.

Boxcar Social Menu & What to Order Specialty coffee anchors the daytime program, featuring precision pour-overs dialed in with beans from Subtext Coffee alongside silky cortados and a floral Iced Lavender Matcha Latte. The food counter keeps things uncomplicated but fresh with flaky almond croissants, crisp pressed pesto or brie sandwiches, and an afternoon smashburger. As evening approaches, swap the caffeine for a rotating Ontario craft draught or a glass of low-intervention wine paired with an artisanal charcuterie board, olives, and warm house-made chips.

Know Before You Go Service is strictly walk-in, and prime laptop perches along the communal tables fill quickly by mid-morning on weekdays. The room operates daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., functioning equally well for an early business meeting or a casual post-work apéro. Arrive via the 501 Queen or 504 King streetcar, as street parking along Richmond is notoriously scarce.
