Bottega Caffè

March 2, 2026
Bottega Volo is a quintessential Little Italy fixture, born from the creative ingenuity of the Morana brothers during the pandemic. Originally established as a stopgap to support their family business and the historic Royal Theatre, it has evolved into a permanent, beloved neighbourhood anchor. The space is intentionally unfussy and warm, shedding the temporary feel of its early days to become a dedicated café and bottle shop. It captures the spirit of a traditional Italian bottega—a place where the focus is on quality, community, and the simple pleasure of a well-made drink. Whether you are grabbing a morning espresso or settling in for an afternoon aperitivo, the atmosphere is consistently inviting, unpretentious, and deeply rooted in the local culture of College Street.
For a first-timer, the move is simple: order a cappuccino and pair it with one of the rotating baked goods from Forno Cultura or a custom pastry like a maritozzo from Monte Bakery. If you are stopping by for lunch or an early evening drink, their panini are consistently excellent, and the curated selection of natural wines and craft beers—many of which you won't find at the LCBO—is unmatched. Prices are reasonable for the quality, and while it is a great spot to relax, keep in mind that it is designed to be a laptop-free zone to encourage actual conversation. It is best visited during the day or early evening; just be aware that hours can occasionally shift depending on the theatre's programming, so it is worth checking their social media if you are planning a late-afternoon visit.
