What is Bamboo Buddha? Perched on King Street West near Tecumseth, Bamboo Buddha is a long-standing, no-frills Chinese neighbourhood staple operated by husband-and-wife duo Karyn Chen and Joe Zhou. The compact storefront features an unfussy dining setup designed primarily for swift takeout pickups and casual counter visits. In a stretch dominated by high-gloss lounges, this modest room remains an essential anchor for straightforward, old-school comfort.

Bamboo Buddha Menu & What to Order The expansive menu leans into classic Cantonese wok dishes and nostalgic Chinese-Canadian favourites served in generous portions. Order the House Special Bamboo Rice, which is packed with chicken, ginger, and greens wrapped in a lotus leaf and steamed inside a bamboo shoot. Other dependable staples include the wok-charred Cantonese chow mein, sizzling bean curd and vegetable hot pot, and retro cult hits like the sweet-glazed Coca-Cola Chicken.

Know Before You Go Seating is bare-bones and walk-in only, making the operation ideal for takeout and delivery across the neighbourhood. In-person pickups paid in cash over $40 often come with a small percentage discount or complimentary spring rolls. Note that the kitchen is closed on Tuesdays and opens slightly later in the mid-afternoon on weekends.
