Ao Cake

What is Ao Cake? Tucked inside Scarborough's Skycity Plaza on Midland Avenue, Ao Cake is a boutique pastry shop turning out East Asian-style sponge cakes and layered sweets tuned to a restrained, less-sweet profile. The minimalist retail footprint is built strictly for quick counter transactions and custom pre-order pickups, foregoing dine-in seating altogether in favour of chilled display vitrines.

Ao Cake Menu & What to Order The roster highlights airy chiffon, light-as-air whipped creams, and distinct regional flavours, anchored by the standout Taro Mochi Cake and the textural Earl Grey Hazelnut Crispy Cake. Portable dessert containers are equally compelling—namely the fruit-packed Mango Thousand Layer Box and the savoury-sweet Salted Egg Yolk Pork Floss Box. For celebration centrepieces, the floral White Peach & Oolong Cake and nutty Black Sesame & Soy Milk Cake offer pure, delicate sweetness that never feels cloying.

Know Before You Go Grab-and-go slices and dessert tubs are available on a walk-in basis, but bespoke celebration cakes should be locked in advance via their online portal. Skycity Plaza offers ample surface parking, though finding a stall gets tight during weekend peak lunch hours. The shop takes Tuesdays and Wednesdays off, opening Thursday through Monday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
