What is Amano Trattoria? Set just north of Front Street at 9 Church St, Amano Trattoria traded the quick-serve pasta format of its sibling projects for an elevated, Roman-inspired dining room wrapped in dim, moody lighting and downtown swagger. The room centered on an eye-catching, three-sided bar anchored by gilded horse sculptures, flowing outward into dining spaces framed with lush velvet curtains. Designed for long evenings over carbs and cocktails, it combined scratch cooking with a refined supper-club edge, complete with the adjacent late-night lounge, Amano Notte.

Amano Trattoria Menu & What to Order The kitchen excelled at carb-focused Roman staples, led by crisp, airy pinsas like the Bittersweet Baby, topped with sweet sausage, Gorgonzola, sliced pear, and radicchio. Scratch-made pastas were mandatory orders, particularly the delicate ricotta-and-nutmeg occhi in rich mushroom sauce and the chili-laced tagliolini studded with tender PEI mussels. For mains, the skin-crisped branzino with fiery bomba rapini delivered bright, sharp contrast, best closed out with a drink from the roving tableside amaro cart or a Jungle Bird finished with pineapple foam.

Know Before You Go Dinner reservations through Resy were the safest route for prime weekend seatings, though walk-ins could routinely find a perch around the central bar. Peak table traffic concentrated between 7:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., with Union and King subway stations both an easy five-minute stroll away. Note that the 9 Church St space has since evolved into Notte Ristorante.
