Allan's Pastry Shop

What is Allan's Pastry Shop? Set inside a strip plaza along Kennedy Road in Scarborough, Allan's Pastry Shop is an unpretentious counter-service staple deeply rooted in Jamaican baking traditions. The space is strictly utilitarian with no indoor seating, operating as a fast-paced takeout hub centered around heated display cases and stacks of fresh bread. For years, it has served as an essential neighbourhood pit stop for diaspora comfort food and meticulously spiced Caribbean hand pies.

Allan's Pastry Shop Menu & What to Order Flaky, turmeric-stained Jamaican patties are the undisputed star here, with the spicy beef delivering an assertive Scotch bonnet kick alongside milder chicken, curried goat, and vegetable variations. Wedge a piping-hot patty inside a split loaf of warm, subtly sweet coco bread for the definitive Scarborough bite, or opt for a takeout container of rich, gelatinous oxtail simmered in dark gravy. Round out the haul with traditional Jamaican Easter bun, dense butter cake, and a bottle of creamy peanut punch or chilled coconut water.

Know Before You Go There are no tables or chairs, so plan to eat on the go or head straight home with your order. Queues build up quickly during weekday lunch hours and Saturday mornings, though the seasoned staff works through walk-ins with remarkable speed; call ahead if you need patties by the dozen. Free surface parking is readily accessible in the plaza lot right outside the front doors.
