VT Insider Tip

Go on a Tuesday or Wednesday evening for the smallest crowds. The installations look best after 6pm when it's fully dark. Grab a hot chocolate from Balzac's and take your time.

About

When February hits and the days are still short, the Distillery District fills its cobblestone streets with illuminated art installations. Free to attend, it turns a winter walk into something genuinely magical. Artists from around the world contribute large-scale light sculptures, making this one of the best free things to do in Toronto's coldest month.

What to Expect

Large-scale illuminated art installations scattered throughout the Distillery District's pedestrian streets. Free admission, though surrounding restaurants and shops will be busy.

Pro Tips

Dress warm — you'll be outside for 45-90 minutes. The cobblestones can be icy, so wear boots with grip. Photography is incredible here; bring your camera.

Getting There

504 King streetcar to Parliament, then walk south. Or the 172 Cherry Street bus from Union. Driving is possible but parking is limited and expensive.
