VT Insider Tip

The most popular installations get extremely crowded between 10pm and 1am. Go early (7-9pm) or late (3-5am) for the best experience. The quieter residential neighbourhood installations are often more rewarding than the headline pieces.

About

Nuit Blanche is Toronto at its most magical. For one night in October, the city transforms into an open-air contemporary art gallery. Hundreds of art installations, performances, and projections take over streets, parks, buildings, and subway stations from sunset to sunrise. It's free, it's citywide, and it's unlike anything else Toronto does.

What to Expect

One night (7pm to 7am) of free contemporary art across the city. Expect very large crowds at major installations. Transit runs all night. Bundle up — October nights are cold.

Pro Tips

Plan a walking route through 2-3 zones rather than trying to see everything. The official app/map is essential. Wear warm, comfortable shoes. Coffee shops along the route become social hubs. The TTC is free all night during Nuit Blanche.

Getting There

TTC runs free all-night service during Nuit Blanche. Start at a subway station near your first zone and walk from there. Driving is pointless — many streets are closed and parking is impossible.
