The Toronto Metropolitan University Pwaaganigaawin (Pow Wow) invites the entire community to gather for a day of celebration, reflection, and cultural exchange. The day begins early with a sacred fire lighting and sunrise ceremony conducted by elder Elwood Ashawasega at Weecheetowin Support Services.

What to Experience Visitors are welcome to witness and participate in various styles of traditional dancing accompanied by powerful drumming and singing. The grounds will feature an array of Indigenous food vendors, arts and crafts sellers, and community information tables.

Practical Details Taking place on September 11, 2026, at 43 Gerrard Street East right in downtown Toronto, the event is free to attend and open to the public—no registration is required for spectators. Attendees joining the early sunrise ceremony are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs and observe traditional protocols.
