Solar Observing Party (NEW DATE)

Friday, July 31, 2026
2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
High Park — Program Room
Ever wanted to look directly at the sun without burning your retinas? Here is your chance. The High Park Library branch is hosting a special Solar Observing Party, giving visitors a safe, up-close look at our closest star using professional-grade telescopes equipped with certified solar filters.
What to Expect
The afternoon kicks off with a short, accessible presentation about solar activity. Afterwards, participants can head outside (weather permitting) to observe sunspots, prominences, and other solar phenomena in real time.
Led by Experts
The event is run by two PhD astronomy students from the University of Toronto, who will be on hand to answer all your burning questions about space, stars, and the cosmos. This free, drop-in event welcomes all ages, though children must be accompanied by a caregiver.
