Looking to slow down and find some creative calm? The Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre (JCCC) is hosting a special June edition of their Shodō workshop, focusing on the beautiful traditional art of Japanese brush calligraphy. Led by practitioner Manaha, this session is designed to be accessible for everyone, whether you're a complete beginner or looking to refine your technique.
What Makes This Edition Special
This June, the workshop takes inspiration from the Tanabata festival. Participants will have the unique opportunity to create their own Tanzaku (wish card) using the meditative art of Shodō. These cards will be displayed at the JCCC as part of their seasonal decorations, offering a beautiful way to connect with Japanese cultural traditions and set your intentions for the summer.
What to Expect
Shodō is as much about the process as it is about the final result. You'll learn the fundamentals of brush handling and stroke order in a supportive, quiet environment. It’s a fantastic way to practice mindfulness and leave the stress of the city behind. All supplies are provided, so just bring yourself and an open mind. The workshop runs from June 7th to June 28th, providing a consistent space to develop your skills over the month. Check the JCCC website for registration details and mandatory forms for younger participants.
