If you're looking for a space where words carry weight and community is the heartbeat, head over to the Tranzac Club in the Annex for the latest edition of Shab-e She’r. This isn't your average stuffy poetry reading; it’s widely regarded as one of Canada’s most diverse and brave poetry series, blending featured performances with a spirited open mic session.

What to Expect Hosted by the inimitable Bänoo Zan, the night promises a mix of established voices and fresh talent. This edition features Lara Bozabalian, a Toronto-based poet and educator known for her award-winning work and her role in the Milk Teeth Collective, alongside Surveyor Efik, a climate activist and bestselling author whose poetry tackles the urgent intersection of environmentalism and human experience.

Whether you're there to listen or to share your own work, the atmosphere is consistently welcoming. The open mic sign-up starts at 6:30 PM, so arrive early if you want to secure a spot to share your own verses. The show runs from 7 PM to 10 PM.

Practical Info Admission is a sliding scale of $10–$20, payable by cash at the door (there is an ATM on-site). The Tranzac is a staple of the Toronto arts scene, so consider grabbing a drink at the bar before settling into the Living Room for the readings. It’s a great way to support local literary culture and connect with the city's vibrant community of writers and activists.
