Looking to pick up a new skill while enjoying a great cup of coffee? Join this hands-on workshop at Morning Parade Coffee Bar in the Beaches to learn the traditional Japanese art of sashiko embroidery.
What You’ll Learn
Sashiko, which translates to "little stabs," is a beautiful form of functional embroidery that has been used for centuries to reinforce and decorate fabric. In this session, you’ll dive into the basics of traditional sashiko stitching and learn how to apply these techniques to visible mending—a sustainable and stylish way to extend the life of your favourite garments.
What’s Included
This workshop is designed for complete beginners, so no prior sewing experience is required. Your ticket includes all the materials you’ll need, which are yours to keep, along with expert instruction. You’ll leave with a finished, hand-stitched zipper pouch and the confidence to start your own mending projects at home. Plus, your registration includes a medium coffee or tea to enjoy while you stitch.
The Venue
Morning Parade is a staple in the Gerrard St E neighbourhood. It’s a cozy, welcoming space that makes for the perfect backdrop for a slow-paced craft session. With only 12 spots available, this is an intimate setting where you’ll get plenty of personal attention. After the workshop, take a walk down to the nearby boardwalk to enjoy the lake views.
