Rufus Does Judy 20th Anniversary Celebration

Rufus Wainwright returns to Toronto for a one-night-only Rufus Does Judy 20th Anniversary Celebration at Koerner Hall (273 Bloor St. W.) on Friday, December 11, 2026, at 8 p.m.
Twenty years ago Wainwright recreated Judy Garland's legendary 1961 Carnegie Hall concert song for song, and the resulting album, Rufus Does Judy at Carnegie Hall, became one of the most talked-about projects of his career. For this anniversary show he is backed by the Royal Conservatory Orchestra, performing selections from that album alongside songs from Want One, Want Two and the rest of his catalogue. Elton John has called him the greatest songwriter on the planet, and an orchestra is the setting where his big, theatrical songs make the most sense.
The night does not end when the orchestra leaves the stage. The Royal Conservatory has added an exclusive post-show DJ set, so plan on staying a while if you want the full party.
Koerner Hall is one of the best-sounding rooms in the city, with wood everywhere and sightlines that make even the upper balconies feel close. For a singer who leans on phrasing and drama the way Wainwright does, that matters. Expect a crowd of longtime fans, Garland devotees and people who simply like a dressed-up December night out.
Practical notes: Koerner Hall is inside the TELUS Centre at the Royal Conservatory, a short walk from Museum station on Line 1 and St. George and Bay stations on Line 2. Tickets range from about $85 to $175 through the Royal Conservatory box office. One-night engagements like this tend to sell out, so book soon if you want decent seats.
